I. Department Overview

As a fundamental program, Economics is the cornerstone for further learning other theoretical and applied economics programs. The Program of Economics is one of the earliest programs of Shenzhen University. Upholding the concept of "Elite Education", the Program aims to foster talented professionals. In line with the principle of careful selection and training, the Program controls the number of students admitted in pursuit of teaching quality, innovates training mode, strengthens students' mathematical foundation, and introduces mathematics and advanced economics courses to expand students' professional skills and increase employment opportunities for them. In recent years, many graduates of the Program have been admitted as postgraduate students by Fudan University, University of Edinburgh, University of Warwick, University Dublin, University of Toulouse and other prestigious universities in and outside of China. Graduates enjoy an employment rate of over 95%, and build careers mainly in the fields of economy, finance, and trade. The Program has 15 full-time teachers, including 4 professors, 5 associate professors and 6 lecturers, among whom 14 hold doctoral degrees. Most of these teachers graduated from nationally and internationally renowned universities in Hong Kong, Japan and other places. They have not only gained a solid foundation of economic theory, but also developed strong research abilities and a global perspective. With a strong faculty team and abundant teaching and scientific research achievements, the teachers have undertaken a program of the National Social Science Fund of China and many provincial and ministerial programs. They have won many national, provincial and municipal awards, and many research papers have been reprinted in full by Xinhua Wenzhai.

II. Undergraduate Education

Training Objectives

The Program aims to train graduates who: are morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically well-developed; gain a solid foundation of Marxist economic theory; are familiar with modern western economic theories; have a wide range of knowledge and expertise that help them develop in economics-related fields; skillfully use a foreign language and computer skills; build career in economic analysis, forecasting, planning and management in government research departments, financial institutions and industry.

Main Courses

Major course: Political Economy, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Econometrics

Required courses: Advanced Mathematics, Finance, Economics of Special Economic Zones, Industrial Economics, Public Economics (English), Financial Accounting, Specialized English, Economic Practical Writing, etc.

Elective courses: Information Economics, History of Economic Theory, Welfare Economics, Institutional Economics, Economic Issues in Contemporary China, etc.

Advanced courses: Western Economics (intermediate), Economic Mathematics (2), Frontiers of Modern Economics, Econometric Software Application, etc.
